Wolfenstein: The New Order – 1080p and 60FPS on PS4

According to the NeoGAF thread, the game will run at 60FPS across all platforms as the game was “hardwired” to do so as noted in a previous interview. However, I could only confirm that the game will be 1080p on the PS4 (comments section) currently and will get in touch with a rep from Bethesda to confirm if the Xbox One version will be the same.
In addition, the campaign is said to last gamers at least 15-20 hours on a normal playthrough. According to a number of previews and interviews with the developers, the game has a strong narrative focus, which is great to hear. Campaign length will obviously vary depending on how quickly you progress through the game based on your previous experiences with FPS games, but without regenerating health, that may extend your playtime a bit on the harder difficulties.
Last year Bethesda also announced the game will be a single player only title, but as I searched through forums and previews to confirm the information from the thread, it seemed like a lot of people had no clue the game didn’t feature multiplayer so I figured I’d reiterate that here. The New Order will release on May 20th of this year.

Wolfenstein: The New Order Will Run at 1080p 60FPS on Xbox One

Angela Ramsey a PR rep of Bethesda Studios has confirmed to OnlySP that, “the Xbox One version of Wolfenstein will run at 1080p/60 fps.”
Previously we could only confirm that the PS4 version would do so. So there you have it, both version will have the same specifications which means we can all get along now. I’ve also responded asking to confirm the 15-20 hour playtime quote and will update this story when we have a response.

Metal Gear Solid V recieved some high praise recently from an event in Nasu, with one attendee praising the PS4 game over the Xbox One title.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes launches on March 20, 2014 in the U.K. with the North American version confirmed for March 18.

PS4 CPU More Powerful Than Xbox One CPU - Benchmark

xbone-vs-ps4
The PlayStation 4 may be even more powerful than the Xbox One than we all expected if a CPU benchmark is to be believed. It’s no secret that the majority of Sony’s and Microsoft’s consoles have got a very similar architecture this generation. Both consoles have an 8-core AMD Jaguar CPU, but it was believed that Microsoft, who bumped their CPU speed by around 10% a few weeks ago (from 1.6Ghz to 1.75Ghz), had the power advantage in this one area. However, a new benchmark by the Substance Engine appears to show that the PS4′s CPU is in fact more powerful (on top of all the other advantages the hardware has).
Substance-Engine_Texture-Generation
According to the benchmark, which focused solely on the CPU, the PlayStation 4 can generate 14 MB/s of textures compared to 12 MB/s for the Xbox One. This has led many to speculate that either Sony is able to push the clock speed of the CPU to 2.0 GHz, or, Microsoft has had to hold back some cores of it’s processor for Kinect and OS usage. A developer has also confirmed that the PlayStation 4′s CPU is currently more powerful than the Xbox One’s.
If this is accurate, it may be a minor difference in it’s own right, but in the overall scheme of things, it means that the XBox One is technically weaker in every way than the PS4, yet more expensive.

GameStop Cuts Xbox One Price Even Further, Should Sony React?

Titanfall Bundle
GameStop has cut the price of the Xbox One TitanFall bundle even further in the UK today, giving a significant discount over the already cut-price offers. They have got the Xbox One TitanFall bundle on offer for just £369.97, which is just £30 more than a solus PlayStation 4, meaning Sony may have a major issue on their hands. The TitanFall bundle includes a copy of TitanFall, a Kinect, and 1 month free Xbox Live Gold subscription. This means that for just £30 more than a PlayStation 4, you can get a Kinect and a copy of one of, if not the, most highly anticipated games for the Xbox One.
Should Sony be worried? Very. For all intents and purposes, TitanFall is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with robots. Modern Warfare made Call of Duty what it is today, and place Microsoft in the driver’s seat for most of the last generation of consoles, because Xbox 360 came to be synonymous with Call of Duty. The same could happen with TitanFall, I can’t see Sony reacting by cutting the price, but it looks like this console war is about to get a hell of a lot less one-sided.

1080p vs 900p vs 720p Screenshot Comparison: Can You Tell the Difference?

Fairly often we hear from developers, publishers, members of the press or even just from our friend a block down the road that it’s impossible to distinguish between 1080p, 720p or 900p resolutions at certain conditions, normally the size of the screen and/or the distance from it.
Of course this gets applied to the console war between PS4 and Xbox One, and it often causes endless arguments topped by scientific explanations for or against said impossibility. But can you see the difference? and if yes, at what distance?
This piece doesn’t aim to drop on you a positive or negative answer to that question. What it does aim to do is to help you find it for yourself.

Report: Google Play Store's infected

The number of mobileapps infected with malware in Google’s Play storenearly quadrupled between2011 and 2013, a security group has reported.
In 2011, there were approximately 11,000 apps in Google’s mobile marketplace that contained malicious software capable of stealing people’s data and committing fraud, according to the results of a study published on Wednesday by RiskIQ, an online security services company. By 2013, more than 42,000 apps in Google’s store contained spyware and information-stealing Trojan programs, researchers said.Apps designed to personalize people’s Android-based phones were most susceptible, as well as entertainment and gaming apps. Some of the most malicious apps in the Google Play store downloaded since 2011 were Wallpaper Dragon Ball, a wallpaper app, and the games Finger Hockey and Subway Surfers Free Tips. Both Wallpaper Dragon Ball and Finger Hockey, RiskIQ said, have malware that steals confidential information such as device IDs from infected devices. Subway Surfers Free Tips, meanwhile, uses a Trojan called Air Push to bypass a device’s security settings and subscribe infected phones to premium services, the company said.RiskIQ performed its analysis using its own software that crawls app stores, websites and web ads. The technology, the company said, exposes malware that would otherwise not show itself to traditional web crawler software.Android apps were only counted as being malicious if they behaved in specific ways as a result of malware. The behavior may include: collecting and sending GPS coordinates, contact lists and email addresses to third parties; recording phone conversations and sending them to attackers; taking control of the infected phone; or downloading other malware onto the phone.Apps in Apple’s store were not analyzed. The findings show that the rising prominence of mobile apps among consumers also makes them a juicy target for hackers. Reports of possible malware in clones of the popular Flappy Bird mobile game recently surfaced, even after it was removed from app stores.“The explosive growth of mobile apps has attracted a criminal element looking for new ways to distribute malware that can be used to commit fraud, identity theft and steal confidential data,”saidRiskIQ CEO Elias Manousos, in announcing the findings.Malicious apps are an effective way to infect users, he said, since they often exploit the trust people have in brands and companies they do business with. But while the number of malicious Android apps is rising, the percentage of them removed by Google is on the decline, researchers said. In 2011 Google removed 60 percent of malicious apps, but in 2013 the company removed less than a quarter of them, the report said. That’s probably due to the rapid increase in malicious software. The overall number of malicious apps removed by Google still increased from roughly 7,000 in 2011 to nearly 10,000 in 2013.
Google said it would need more information about RiskIQ’s analysis to comment on the findings.

PlayStation 4 vs Xbox One: Which System Is Better

To say there is bad blood between Microsoft and Sony would be viewed as a massive understatement.
Both companies are set to release their next-generation gaming consoles later this year, but neither side is waiting until the to take shots at one another.
Microsoft took a indirect shot at Sony by securing a more-than impressive list of Xbox One exclusive games, but then Sony dropped a major bombshell of its own.
Towards the end of it’s E3 press event, Sony America President Jack Tretton announced, one by one, details of the PlayStation 4 that was met by thunderous applause by those in attendance, all of them direct shots at Microsoft. Then to top it all off, Sony, to coincide with the announcement that gamers can buy, sell, rent, and trade PS4 games at will when the console is released, released this video of  ”instructions on how to share games” which is viewed as a direct shot at Microsoft’s decision to not allow the sharing of games whatsoever without paying full price for said game.
It’s clear that we are in for a dirty fight between the top two console companies in the industry today. No matter what the companies do and say, whether direct or indirect, about each other, there is one thing that both care about just as much as the other: the consumer.
Without people going out and purchasing the consoles, neither company will see success. So, that’s where you come in Fansiders. What are your thoughts on the consoles?
Below are categories with a poll box after each where you can cast your vote for either PS4 or Xbox One. After it’s all said and done, the votes will be tallied and a results post will be done in SEVEN days.

Hardware & Specs:

For the most part, the hardware aspect of the consoles are almost exactly the same. Both systems will have built-in 500GB hard-disk drives, a version of an 8-core AMD processor built specifically for that system, and a blue-ray disc drive which Sony had on the PS3 as well. But then you get to a key piece of technology that is different between the two: the system memory.
The Xbox One will utilize DDR3 RAM (Random-Access Memory) which will allow the system to transfer small pockets of data at a very high rate of speed. That type of memory is what is found in the average home PC today.
The PS4 will take advantage of the newest form of RAM with GDDR5. GDDR5 RAM is what is commonly found on today’s top-end PC graphics cards allowing larger amounts of data to be transferred at much faster speeds than DDR3 RAM would allow. It allows the PS4 to be optimized for graphical output.
The inclusion of DDR5 RAM in the PS4 will allow the console to have more graphical computing power in addition to faster graphics memory. What does that mean? Well, PS4 has the ability to have much better looking games (graphics wise) than the Xbox One.
Where the Xbox One has a one up on the PS4 is in regards to storage space. Both consoles have the aforementioned 500GB built-in HDD, but the Xbox One will allow users to connect external drives without formatting first to use for extra storage space. Another big plus for Microsoft’s console is it’s WiFi speed.
The Xbox One will utilize WiFi Direct which will allow WiFi speeds up to 250mbps. Much higher than the 50-75mbps that the PS4 will support. Of course, if you wire your console via Ethernet then that doesn’t really matter.

Controller:

Microsoft hit a homerun, well with the exception of that god-awful directional pad, with its design of the Xbox 360 controller. In fact, there are some fans out there who say if you combine the 360 controller with the PS3 then you have, potentially, the best console/controller combination ever. But, that obviously isn’t the case.
With the Xbox One controller, Microsoft tweaked the old 360 model just enough to make it look new yet old at the same time. The d-pad has been fixed, the battery pack has been put inside the controller, it’s slimmer overall, and much lighter. Plus, they have created a trigger system that will allow game publishers to have the console adjust the tension and feel of the triggers to suit certain titles. All-in-all it looks like a perfect controller, but what about the PS4′s controller.
The DualShock 4 is a much-needed upgrade on a base model that has been around since PlayStation in the mid-1990s. The DualShock 3 was small and crammed which made hitting the proper buttons at the right time hard to do with players with bigger hands. Sony has seemingly fixed all of that with the DualShock 4.
With a bigger body, the DualShock 4 allows for further spread out buttons to give the user a better feel. The analog sticks now have a bit of a ridge to them in order to allow better grip. Even the triggers received a touch up as they are now curved to form around your fingers.
The biggest new feature of the DualShock4 is the touchpad in the upper center of the controller. While it’s unsure exactly how games will take advantage of this new aspect to the controller, we do know that it can work like a mouse for the console’s web browser. It even clicks in like a mouse button for selection options.
While there is rightful skepticism with Sony’s new controller, there may be just enough positive change to get users excited about DualShock4.

Non-Gaming/Social Features:

Everyone knows that the most important aspect of a game console is, well, the games. But what about those times you just aren’t in the mood to play a game, but rather just relax and take advantage of other features that the console has to offer.
Microsoft has done it’s due diligence — probably even too much — to make sure the Xbox One can be used as an all-purpose entertainment machine. From Live TV passthrough to it’s exclusive deal with ESPN, in addition to it’s market of hundreds of apps like YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, etc., Microsoft has made the Xbox One its user’s one-stop-shop for all things entertainment.
The PS4 wont have the live TV passthrough or the NFL content, but will still provide streaming of Netflix, Hulu, MLB.TV, NHL Gamecenter, YouTube, etc.
In terms of Social features, Sony spent much of its inital PS4 reveal back in February touching on what the PS4 will allow its users to do.
In addition to improve it’s quality of the PlayStation Network to that of Xbox Live (still a long ways to go to get close to that), Sony implemented Facebook integration and live video chat with the PS4. Users will get live social feed updates as they happen directly to their console. If a friend buys or downloads a new game, you will know; get’s a trophy (achievement), you’ll know.
Arguably the biggest social feature on the PS4 is the new “Share” button that graces the DualShock4.
With this button users will be able to broadcast live gameplay via UStream, take screenshots, or share recorded video via the console’s game DVR. Users can also invite friends who are in a different location on their PS4 to remotely connect to their system, and play their game. This is incredibly useful for those, like myself, who often get stuck at an annoying part of a game, and can’t figure out how to get by it. Now, you can have a friend beat it without them even coming over. That my friends, is laziness to the Nth degree, yet, at the same time, it’s pretty awesome.
Not completely anti-social, the Xbox One will allow users to have as many friends as they so choose which is an increase from the current limit of 100 on the Xbox 360. The major social feature that the Xbox One will have is the inclusion of Skype built-in that you can use while you are in the middle of a game. In fact, all voice chat on the console will run via Skype.

Exclusive Games:

What good is a console if there are no games to play on it? First and foremost, we’re leaving out non-exclusive from this category due to that not really helping the case in any way for either console. This is all about the exclusives.
This is where Microsoft seemed to impress many, including myself, the most with their E3 Conference on Monday afternoon.
Among the games shown off as Xbox One exclusives were classic IPs Dead Rising 3Halo, and Forza Motorsport. Then came the new IPs that show great signs of promise. Quantum Break,Ryse: Son of RomeLococycle, andTitanfall are just a few of the key exclusive games coming to the Xbox within a year of its launch.
On the PS4 side of things, they showed off KnackInfamous: Second Son, The Dark SorcererKillzone: Shadow Fall, and The Order: 1886.
At first glance, the Xbox One seems to have the better of the exclusive games. And when you factor in it’s deal with EA to get exclusive in-game content as well as the deal with Call of Duty to continue to get DLC first, it makes the Xbox One the clear standout when it comes to exclusivity. However, exclusivity means nothing if the games don’t play well.
Once we can get our hands on how these games play, then we can truly have a grasp for which console’s exclusive content is superior.

PS4 VS AMD R9 290

After PS4's launch, I think this would be an appropriate question. Since both pieces of Hardware are same priced. But one is obviously superior in hardware wise.
AMD R9 290:

Specs:
VS
PS4:
Specs:
Note the R9 290 is 2.66 times more powerful. The R9 290 GPU is almost 5X more powerful than PS4's GPU.
Not, only that it doesn't struggle to run games with Ghost's at 1080P. The R9 290 will blow through Ghost at 1080P at constant 60+FPS not only that it could even push Ghost at 4K graphics. It's not only easily pushing 60 FPS + in 1080P in AAA titles but it's easily pushing 45+ FPS in 1600P in games like Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider (with TressFX enabled),Metro: Last Night. Not only the PS4 not have the games mentioned it will choke trying to run Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider with TressFX and Metro Last Night at 1080P. It could barely push BF4 at 900P something that the R9 290 can do at 1080P without breaking a sweat. And did I mention it can do 4K gaming.
The only advantage the PS4 that I could think of is that it has exclusives.
The R9 290 comes bundled with a free copy of BF4. PS4 doesn't come bundled with ANY games. And I didn't even go into 75% off of Steam Sales. I doubt the PSN will gave AAA games 75% off.
So, if you were to make a $400 investment which one would you choose?

PS3 Console $600 vs GTX 8800 $600: Look back 7 years later. Which one was better?

Often times consoler's claim that buying a high end PC hardware will not be worth it as games later on in the console generation will not look or work better than the same game running on the same console years done in the console life cycle. So, let's take a look at if the claim that PC Gaming hardware will not be up to snuff 7 years down a consoles life cycle. The 8800 GTX was released in the same month in the same year 7 years ago in November 2006 and they both cost in the $600. Let's see how each one performs 7 years later.
First the specs.
8800 GTX:

VS
the PS3:

Now, the PS3 runs most of it's game at 720P or lower. Where as the 8800 GTX is running many games released during PS3's console life cycles at 1080P. It could run games such as Left 4 Dead (maxed out) at 1080P, 35+ FPS in Assassins Creed in 1080PAlmost 60 FPS in Bioshock at 1080PAlmost 60 FPS in Mass Effect at 1080P.These are just some of the games that the 8800 GTX can push at 1080P, games that PS3 can only dream of running at 1080P and I am pretty sure there are more.
Even newer games like BF3 it could run it at Ultra High. Far Cry 3 @ 720P while getting nearly 60 FPSHitman Absolution at 720P at near 60 FPS. Even the newest Tom Raider at 1680x1050 at Normal Settings and at close to 60 FPS in some cases without FRAPS. The PS3 could only dream of running Tomb Raider at 1080P.
And in the interest of discretion I myself have PS3 80 GB and I think it's a sleek and sexy console, easily the best looking console, this gen as well as last gen. But let's face it the 8800 GTX is all over the PS3 as it could run dozens and dozens of games at 1080P and or higher resolutions that the PS3, same thing applies to the Xbox 360.
I have to give it to nVidia, The 8800 GTX was one stunning piece of engineering, the performance bar it raised was absolutely staggering, I would rate it as one of the 3 best GPU ever released in the history of GPU's in terms of the impact it had along with the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro released in 2002 and along with the 3DFX Voodoo 2 released in 1998.
So, who want's to claim that the AMD R9 290 will not be relevant in 7 years time vs the PS4? I am willing to bet it will especially since it's already pushing 4K graphics RIGHT NOW. A resolution the PS4 can only dream of.
